Naturopathic Physician, Medical Director
Dr. Ellen Lewis is a licensed naturopathic physician in the state of Connecticut and medical director at Shalva Clinic. She returned to her home state of Connecticut following the completion of a highly competitive residency at National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Lewis graduated from NCNM in 2011 with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine and a certificate in midwifery. During her time at NCNM, Dr. Lewis completed a two-year mentorship in integrative women’s health under the direction of Kimberly Windstar–Hamlin, MEd, ND. Additionally, she completed a one-year apprenticeship in midwifery and pediatrics with Jennifer Gibbons, ND. She then went on to study biotherapeutic drainage with Dickson Thom, DDS, ND and Holistic Pelvic Care with Tami Kent, MSPT. Recently, she advanced her understanding of homeopathy through her studies at the New England School of Homeopathy in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Lewis received her baccalaureate degree in athletic training from Boston University in 2003. Her areas of focus were injury prevention and rehabilitation in collegiate athletes. While at Boston University, Dr. Lewis had the opportunity to work with the men’s ice hockey, women’s soccer, lacrosse and field hockey teams. Wishing to expand the population she was helping, Dr. Lewis then went on to work as a personal trainer and eventually became the manager of a personal training program in Cambridge, Massachusetts and educator for new personal trainers throughout New England.
Dr. Lewis is knowledgeable in both conventional and natural modalities and utilizes a variety of diagnostic tests and treatments in her general family practice such as clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, vitamin and mineral therapy, biotherapeutic drainage, phytoembryotherapy, homeopathy, physical medicine, hydrotherapy, and lifestyle counseling. Dr. Lewis treats all ages from infants to seniors. While she treats a variety of conditions from the common cold to chronic disease, she has specific interests in women’s health, pediatrics, autoimmune disease, thyroid disorders, and sports performance.
In addition to seeing patients in her private practice, Dr. Lewis is adjunct clinical and academic faculty at the University of Bridgeport where she oversees naturopathic medical students at the UB clinic. When she’s not with patients or immersed in her studies, you will find her optimizing her own health potential, as well as enjoying a wide variety of interests; such as exploring the great outdoors with her hiking boots or snowshoes on, carousing the farmer’s markets and cooking up her next meal, improving her tennis game, training for her next half marathon, gardening, or spending time with her husband, family, friends and one very cute yorkie named Zoey.
