Naturopathic Physician and Licensed Acupuncturist
Dr. Randall Block is a licensed naturopathic physician and licensed acupuncturist in the state of Connecticut. His passion for learning natural medicine allowed him to graduate Cum Laude from the University of Bridgeport in 2020 with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine, a master’s degree in acupuncture, and a second master’s degree in human nutrition. Much of his in-residence clinical training took place within the local community of Bridgeport, performing rotations in general medicine, naturopathic oncology, inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, intravenous medicine, and genetic evaluation. Dr. Block wrote his doctoral thesis on intestinal permeability, its diagnosis and clinical correlates, and is especially interested in treating the gastrointestinal tract in order to bring health to other systems in the body. He spent many spring breaks attending trainings in Jamaica alongside his mentor, Dr. Eugene Zamperion, learning herbal medicine directly from the bushmen of the Jamaican countryside. He then went on to receive advanced training in holistic counseling with Dr. Moshe Block, Homeopathy with the New England School of Homeopathy, and regenerative injection techniques with Dr. Tyna Moore out of Portland Oregon. In addition to passing biomedical and clinical board exams for licensure, Dr. Block also completed elective board examinations in pharmaceutical medicine as well as minor surgical procedures. In 2021 he founded North Shore Family Acupuncture in Long Island, and Nucleic Sage Naturopathic Medicine in Greenwich. He still works in those clinics part time strictly to serve his patients that are from his home state of New York, who would otherwise not have accessibility to the functional medicine that is allowed in Connecticut.
Most recently, Dr. Block has become a Chronic Pain Specialist through training with Adhesion Release Methods in Denville New Jersey. Adhesion release is used for treating chronic pain, in patients that have had pain for more than 6 months and have seen at least 3 other doctors prior without finding relief.
He uses different methods of natural pain relief as an integral part of patient care with naturopathic oncology, as well as with addiction medicine. Dr. Block has a strong connection with healing addiction and has been sober for 16 years himself. He has spent that time helping others to recover from addiction, and remembers what it feels like to be a patient in that position. Dr. Block has pioneered the first treatment protocol for withdrawal symptoms of suboxone detoxification, the first and only available treatment for this major problem to date.
In the field of cardiovascular disease, he has created a regimen for patients with high cholesterol that can be taken alongside statin medications (the most prescribed drugs in America), in order to create better protection against artery disease while also lowering the necessity of drug dosages and side effects. He claims there is no reason for anyone to die of a heart attack in the 21st century.
Dr. Block is very happy to be a part of Shalva Clinic, and to be spending time serving our community in Westport CT.
Naturopathic Oncology & Cardiovascular Disease:
What do they have in common?
Dr. Block decided to become a naturopathic physician because of his interest in natural cancer care after witnessing its ability to mean the difference between life and death in some cases, as well as it’s logical application of medicine for the safety and success of the patient. While in his first year of medical school he learned that the top cause of death in America was not only cancer, but also cardiovascular disease- two pathologies that hit home for him and his family. It was at that time that he committed himself to making both of these diseases the top priority of his medical practice. His passion for the necessity of integrative care was propelled forward the following year after witnessing his uncle go through a colon cancer diagnosis and lose his life to the complications of chemotherapy treatment.
The purpose of naturopathic oncology is to provide critical appraisal, truly informed consent and shared decision-making around therapies which can be supportive in aiding the body’s fight against cancer as a disease, in helping a patient deal with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and in improving their overall quality of life.
Dr. Block remains active in the integrative oncology community in the US and worldwide, attending multiple yearly trainings and conferences to remain current with advancements in the field. He is a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Society for Integrative Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society for Medical Oncology, and the American Society of Preventive Oncology. Dr. Block is currently writing a book for oncology patients and their families, providing the simple information needed to navigate and advocate for themselves effectively during the critical time of receiving a cancer diagnosis. He prides himself on being committed to his patients, taking the time and care to guide each person and their families through their journey with compassion and vital instruction.
