Naturopathic Physician

Dr. Carine Bonnist earned her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Before medical school, she studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Vocal Music Performance.

After medical school, Dr. Bonnist spent two years in an informal residency at Anatara Medicine under the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Ahvie Herskowitz, a world renowned M.D. and convergence medicine extraordinaire. She attended conferences on anti-aging medicine and alternative medicine, learning from the most progressive and brilliant practitioners. When she wasn’t consulting with patients in San Francisco, Dr. Bonnist administered IV and injection therapies, which included both nutritive and oxidative formulas. She hopes to bring this service to Shalva Clinic in the near future!

As a Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Bonnist interviews her patients about personal history, lifestyle, environment, and mental and emotional health. She uses physical exams and cutting edge lab testing in order to get to the nucleus of patient complaints and choose the most appropriate therapies. Dr. Bonnist guides her patients towards optimal wellness.  Concerned with determining the source of disease, her primary focus is treating the body as a whole; healing the person, not just the symptoms.

This philosophy stems from the belief that no two people are the same.  The individualized practice she utilizes provides her patients with a customized treatment approach that combines a strong focus on lifestyle modifications such as diet and optimal habits, with the use of botanicals, neutraceuticals, homeopathics, and ozone therapies.

Dr. Bonnist’s favorite part of being a Naturopathic Doctor is establishing rapport with her patients, working as a team to achieve physical and emotional wellbeing. She enjoys running, yoga, musical theater, traveling, and spending time with her friends, family, and her yellow Lab, Piper.
