Dr. Ellen Lewis is a licensed naturopathic physician in the state of Connecticut and medical director at Shalva Clinic. She returned to her home state of Connecticut following the completion of a highly competitive residency at National University Natural Medicine (Formerly NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Lewis graduated from NUNM in 2011 with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine and a certificate in midwifery. During her time at NUNM, Dr. Lewis completed a two-year mentorship in integrative women’s health under the direction of Kimberly Windstar–Hamlin, MEd, ND. Additionally, she completed a one-year apprenticeship in midwifery and pediatrics with Jennifer Gibbons, ND. She then went on to study biotherapeutic drainage with Dickson Thom, DDS, ND and Holistic Pelvic Care with Tami Kent, MSPT. Recently, she advanced her understanding of homeopathy through her studies at the New England School of Homeopathy in Boston, Massachusetts.
A Passion for Women’s Health
Dr. Lewis has dedicated years to women’s health issues. As a married mother of two young daughters, she lives the challenges of daily life that many women experience and has successful strategies to optimize energy and health. In addition to her medical training, she has a certificate in midwifery and has completed a two-year mentorship in integrative women’s health, and a one-year apprenticeship in midwifery and pediatrics. An expert in Escharotic Therapy and cervical dysplasia, she provides warm and personal support to her patients undergoing treatment through diet, vitamin therapy and healthy lifestyle changes. She has successfully treated thousands of women all over the world.
She has served as faculty at the local university training 3rd and 4th year medical interns and residents in escharotic therapy. She is sought out for her expertise in the procedure providing second opinion consults, and training for other medical providers worldwide. In addition to her expertise in cervical dysplasia and HPV, she is extremely knowledgeable in chronic vaginal and urinary tract infections, providing cutting-edge testing and treatment that goes beyond standard care.

Dr. Lewis is knowledgeable in both conventional and natural modalities and utilizes a variety of diagnostic tests and treatments in her general family practice such as clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, vitamin, and mineral therapy, biotherapeutic drainage, homeopathy, physical medicine, hydrotherapy, and lifestyle counseling. Dr. Lewis treats all ages from infants to seniors. While she treats a variety of conditions from the common cold to chronic disease, she has specific interests in women’s health, pediatrics, autoimmune disease, thyroid disorders, and sports performance.
Dr. Lewis received her baccalaureate degree in athletic training from Boston University in 2003. Her areas of focus were injury prevention and rehabilitation in collegiate athletes. While at Boston University, Dr. Lewis had the opportunity to work with the men’s ice hockey, women’s soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey teams. Wishing to expand the population she was helping, Dr. Lewis then went on to work as a personal trainer and eventually became the manager of a personal training program in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and educator for new personal trainers throughout New England.
